How to Geocache

Geocaching is really simple once you know the basics—it’s like a modern treasure hunt using your phone. Here’s a clear step‑by‑step guide:

  1. Download the app
Use a geocaching app (e.g. Geocaching®) on your phone to see caches near you.

  2. Choose a cache
Pick an easy one nearby to start with and check the hints and difficulty.

  3. Follow the GPS
Head outside and use the map/compass to navigate to the location.

  4. Search carefully
The app gets you close (within a few metres), then you look for a hidden container—often under logs, behind signs, or in trees.

  5. Sign the logbook
When you find it, write your name/date to prove you found it.

  6. Swap (optional)
If there are small items inside, you can take one and leave something of equal value.

  7. Put it back exactly where you found it
Return the cache to the same spot so others can find it.
