Mid-Norfolk Railway

Overview

Mid-Norfolk Railway is the longest standard-gauge heritage railway in East Anglia, running through the heart of Norfolk between Dereham and Wymondham. Operated by the Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust, this volunteer-led line offers nostalgic journeys aboard vintage steam and diesel locomotives. Originally part of the Wymondham–Fakenham branch opened in 1847; the route was closed during the Beeching cuts but revived in the 1990s. Today, visitors can enjoy scenic rides, themed events, and a glimpse into railway history at restored stations like Dereham and Thuxton. With plans to extend to County School, the railway promises an authentic experience of Britain’s rail heritage.
